St. John, United States Virgin Islands is known as “Love City” for a lot of reasons, and the 2017 Festival celebration is certainly one of them! Each year, the island’s diverse population welcomes everyone from neighboring islands, the Caribbean region and around the world, to partake in culture, music, cuisine, pageantry, Steel Pan, Calypso (Kaiso) and the rich history of the July 3, 1848 Emancipation of enslaved Africans in the Danish West Indies (now the U.S. Virgin Islands).
With the theme, “The Present and Past in Ways Never Foreseen for St. John Festival 2017” the weeks-long schedule of activities kicks off on on Saturday, May 27th with a Festival Food Sale in the Franklin A. Powell, Sr. Park in Cruz Bay… and culminate with an Emancipation Day program July 3rd, and the following day’s July 4th Parade and Fireworks that same night. The Festival Village and Children’s Village will provide local, regional and international entertainment, food, and lots of family fun. (Photo: St. John Festival Facebook Page)
