St. Croix Carnival 2016-2017 Theme Honors USVI Centennial; Schedule Announced

st-croix-carnival-2016-2017The 2016-17 Crucian Christmas committee announces its 2016-2017 theme titled “Honoring 100 Years of our Centennial Past, Embracing our Present and Future to Last.” The theme was created by committee members with suggestions from various governmental officials and the VI Centennial Commission. The committee members recognized the importance of highlighting this significant time in our Virgin Islands history.

The annual Village will be staged in the parking lot near the Paul E. Joseph Stadium and will last for 10 days, beginning on December 29 and ending on January 7.

The length of the village and its start date is calculated by counting backwards from the dates of the parade, which traditionally occurs on the first Friday and Saturday of the New Year – January 6 and 7th. The village traditionally begins 10 days before the Adults parade.

The Children’s parade will begin at the Claude O. Markoe School on January 6. The scheduled start time is 10 a.m. The parade will proceed down King Street to the Village area.

The Adults parade participants will gather at the Claude O. Markoe School and areas to the south on January 7. The scheduled start time is 10 a.m. The parade will proceed down King Street to the Village area.

J’ouvert Morning revelers gather at Hannah’s Rest corner at 5:00 a.m. on January 4. The action begins when the VIPD gives the ok.

The Food, Arts and Craft Fair starts at noon on January 4 around the Eliza McBean Clock Tower. The honoree is the Frederiksted Freedenberg Moravian Church for their 25 years plus participation in this event.
