(St. Thomas, VI) – Downtown Revitalization, Inc. (DRI), a dynamic group of residents, land owners and business owners in the Charlotte Amalie area are working with the public and private sectors revitalize and energize town of Charlotte Amalie to benefit both citizens and visitors to the island.
Begun as a series of conversations in 2009, DRI has made concerted efforts to strive for a vibrant hub of economic, social and cultural activity, including presentations to groups, town hall meetings, and charrettes. The goal is to revive the area stretching from Havensite and Sugar Estate in the east, to Frenchtown in the west; and north from the Waterfront uphill to include the neighborhoods of Savan, Fireburn Hill, Synagogue Hill, Long Path, Garden Street and Government Hill.
As progress is made in this initiative, the group plans to host events in the downtown area for residents and visitors to enjoy a taste of how it “used to be” and how it shall be again. LIV applauds this effort, and we invite our St. Thomas guests to participate in events such as the “Romance with a Tropical Flavor” Valentine’s Day activity scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2015.
